The asalert.exe process is an executable file from the software BrightStor ARCserve Backup developed by Computer Associates. The software is a storage management solution for distributed and multiplatform environments. It is used to backup and restore data from all machines on the user network that is running operating system such as Windows, NetWare, UNIX and Linux. It provides media and device management utilities. It comprises two main components that work together to back up, copy and restore user data. It provides the components, functions and utilities required by network manager to actively manage and obtain network backups. For Windows, the BrightStor Arcserver Backup has a wizard feature called My First Backup that prepares media, designate what to back up, and schedule future jobs in a short time. It is capable for complex operations based on its other Advanced options features such as report writing, establishing tape rotation schedules, staging tape backup on disk, and supporting tape libraries, RAID hardware, enterprise software such as SAP and Oracle. It breaks down into three major components namely the Backup Server, a user Interface called Backup Manager, and different add-on options and agents.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. asalert.exe. is used by BrightStor ARCserve Backup, If you shut down asalert.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop asalert.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is BrightStor ARCserve Backup, from your system.
