The anvir.exe file is an EXE application process integrated into the system by AnVir software products, which are Windows programs classified as system security tools developed by AnVir Software with a set of features for monitoring background and system processes, Windows services, startup items and application activity to detect malicious code and protect Windows-based systems against possible hacker attacks, data security threats, user privacy risks, system stability issues, data loss or corruption caused by viruses, worms, Trojans, spyware programs and backdoor rootkits among other malware items. These AnVir software products that deploy the anvir.exe file as one of its component executable processes include the AnVir Task Manager program (both free and professional editions) and the AnVir Virus Destroyer application. During the installation of these AnVir software products, the anvir.exe file is placed in the system alongside other program executables, DLL (Dynamic Link Library) modules, certain SYS driver utilities and specific background process items among various resource files and component libraries that are used by these AnVir system security tools for implementing its embedded functionalities into the system and for performing particular procedures and operations as requested by the user.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. anvir.exe. is used by AnVir Task Manager and AnVir Virus Destroyer, If you shut down anvir.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop anvir.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is AnVir Task Manager and AnVir Virus Destroyer, from your system.
