Lenovo ThinkPad notebooks come pre-installed with an application, with a file extension of actray.exe that allows the machine to connect to the Internet. The process displays as ThinkVantage Access Connections. The application shows the users the network connections that are available, and allows them to choose what Internet connection to use. The default path of the file is C:\Program Files\ThinkPad\ConnectUtilities\actray.exe. Known file size is 409,600 bytes. This is run as a background process and starts when Windows is launched. The file is not considered as a risk to the computer’s security. It has not been connected with any form of virus, spyware, or malware. It has also not been connected with backdoor malicious files like Trojan. What the application does is to store network locations and their profiles, and displays these when available. But the application is not just used for Internet connections. The application also stores settings for network sharing of files and printers.
How can I stop actray.exe and should I?
Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. actray.exe. is used by Lenovo Access Connections, If you shut down actray.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start.
