what is a .irr file?

Brewer Lamp Files are called IRR files. They are categorized as data files developed by the Brewer Data Management Software. These files contain irradiance data that the UVBrewer calculated. They define a specific lamp’s irradiance properties and are usually created when a lamp is calibrated and the "Save lamp file" within UVBrewer is selected. IRR files can be opened on a Windows operating system with the use of the Brewer UVBrewe; the software that created these files. This software is popularly used to conduct Brewer UV data analysis. This program is used for the reduction of Brewer UV data files that the UV, UF, UX and the UA routines produce. The output produced by this application can either be in graph or an ASCII code of irradiance file, daily weighted UV or scan weighted UV. This program also determines Brewer response wherein all these UV response files and its history are kept within a setup file.

Brewer UVBrewer

Brewer UVBrewer

Brewer/UVBrewer is specially designed software used with spectrophotometers, which measure the intensity of light transmitted from a source or reflected from a smooth surface, such as polished glass or from opaque substances like atmospheric gases. UVBrewer is a program designed to analyze raw data generated by the Brewer software into UV, UA and UF or UX routines. The program outputs a graphical chart showing the scan weighted UV or the daily weighted UV for a specific period. It can also calculate new irradiance results based on data from external lamp calibrations. This UV radiation monitoring software was created and developed by Martin Stanek from the Solar and Ozone Observatory of the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute. According to many users, Brewer/UVBrewer runs smoothly when installed in a compatible IBM PC desktop with Windows NT/95/98.

a word of warning

Be careful not to rename the extension on .irr files, or any other files. This will not change the file type. Only special conversion software can change a file from one file type to another.

what is a file extension?

A file extension is the set of three or four characters at the end of a filename; in this case, .irr. File extensions tell you what type of file it is, and tell Windows what programs can open it. Windows often associates a default program to each file extension, so that when you double-click the file, the program launches automatically. When that program is no longer on your PC, you can sometimes get an error when you try to open the associated file.
