I upgraded from iMac to a Windows 8.1. Motherboard recognize all 4 RAM sticks of 8 gb each = 32GB of RAM yet Windows 8.1 only recognize 24GB of RAM?
Please help.
Hi Arran, 1) If it is not show then one ram sticks may not be completely inserted.Try removing the RAM and putting it back... Try switching the position in the slots - just make sure all sticks run correctly with your computer and that your motherboard can deal with the new RAM you installed. 2) That would be the easiest to correct, simply restart your computer, and there is a possibility that your BIOS didn't saw the added RAM the first time. Those thing aren't good and can possibly make mistakes.
Case 1: When you switched slots, you started the computer to be welcomed with an error telling you have no more RAM This mean that the RAM stick you brought doesn't fit your computer/motherboard or that the RAM is DOA. If you know for sure you have correct RAM, DoA (Death on Arival) seems to be your case, It happens to the best ;) Easiest fix: try to get a refund (if DoA, it will be easy), find your motherboard manual and get correct RAM for it. Case 2: When you switched RAM, you still had only 24 Gig on your computer That means that you probably have a problem with one of the RAM slots on you Computer... Or, you motherboard can't deal 32Gig of RAM (which is possible).
Or
Go to Start, type msconfig and press enter. Click on the Boot tab, then advanced options. Check to see if the 'Maximum Memory' is checked. Sometimes it will only "see" what is listed. Just uncheck that and it should work great from there.
On all screenshots I see, it shows the Start Screen on the "Dashboard Tile". But for me, it shows Skype. I also don't understand the difference between the settings "Enabled", "Disabled" and "Dynamic". Only "Hidden" is obvious, and it removes the Skype tile. But the other options don't seem to make any difference...
